After writing the script about a two-bit boxer who gets a "million-to-one shot" against the world heavyweight champion, Stallone insisted that he star in the title role, and his equally unknown status helped to catapult him (and this rousing film) to overnight success. The story is familiar, but it has been handled with such vitality and emotional honesty that you can't help but leap and cheer for Rocky Balboa, the chump turned champ (despite his valiant defeat in the ring) who stuns the boxing world with the support of his timid girlfriend, Adrian (Talia Shire), and grizzled trainer, Mickey (Burgess Meredith).  Rating:  - Much ado about nothingI'm going to commit an American heresy: Rocky is not at all a good movie. There, I said it. Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay and, as such, made the lead role of Rocky Balboa exactly what Stallone wanted Balboa to be, exactly the role Stallone wanted to play -- Stallone. And he doesn't do it very well. I haven't seen a lead actor this bad...well, ever (though Babe the talking pig at least made me glad for the invention of slaughter. Rocky the talking ... If you've never seen the Rocky series I would highly recommend it if you like sports/action movies. Read More Rating: - "One Of Stallone's Best!"Sylvester Stallone and more star in this 1976 drama. A Philadelphia boxer is given a chance to fight a heavyweight champion. Rocky is definitely one of Stallone's best films and greatest roles. I'm glad to have this 2-disc set that has nice picture and sound plus cool extras. I highly recommend this classic film.
